Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health disorder in the United States, affecting 40 million adults. Despite this, anxiety disorders are often misunderstood and underdiagnosed. In order to raise awareness of these conditions, October has been designated as National Anxiety and Depression Awareness Month.

One of the most common types of anxiety disorders is Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). GAD is characterized by persistent and excessive worry that interferes with daily activities. People with GAD may experience symptoms such as restlessness, fatigue, muscle tension, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. While the exact cause of GAD is unknown, it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

Fortunately, there are effective treatments available for anxiety disorders. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that has been shown to be particularly helpful in treating anxiety disorders. CBT focuses on helping people to identify and change negative thinking patterns and maladaptive behaviors. Medication can also be an effective treatment for anxiety disorders, and many people benefit from a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
